    Cuisine/Fresh Fish

Citarella is known for having some of the freshest fish and specialty produce in town. In addition to the gourmet market that Joe Gurrera purchased in 1983, in 1985 he purchased Lockwood & Winant, one of the largest and best known of the Fulton Fish Market’s wholesale companies. As Joe’s success with seafood progressed, he branched out into meats, poultry and gourmet foods. It's his commitment to quality and customer service, however, that earned him his vast and growing customer base. Originally branching out to Joseph’s in Rockefeller Center, Joe has now opened Fulton as the latest addition to his empire. The name is telling, as it is named after the Fulton Fish Market, which relocated to the Bronx in 2005. It's a fitting nod to the seafood that's served here, which is both unique and fresh from start to finish. Chef Jeremy Culver takes the raw ingredients and creates an intimate yet exciting menu, including a raw bar, whole fish, prepared fish, creative sides and some spectacular “land” creations.

Decor

The artwork at Fulton is two-fold, consisting of paintings and charcoal drawings by Naima Rauam, a local artist who specializes in the early morning images of the Fulton Fish Market, South Street Seaport and New York waterfront. Although she originally worked out of the market -- where she was based from 1984 until 2005 -- when it moved she also moved her studio. She still visits both the waterfront and the Bronx, however, where the market is now located. At Fulton, the restaurant's rear exposed brick wall serves as a backdrop for six of Rauam's charcoal drawings. Elegantly framed in dark wood with white mats, these scenes of fish and fisherman add the perfect vibe to Fulton and are complemented throughout by watercolors depicting the activity of the market and all its vibrancy.
