Comfort Zone

Who could resist dining at the newest restaurant-turned-nightclub-turned-bathhouse from the creators of Tao? With so much going on at LAVO, it’s best to decide in advance of dinner what type of experience -- dining outside, dining downstairs or simply hanging out in the nightclub -- suits you best. For tips on maximizing your Lavo experience, please read on.

Reservations
Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling the restaurant directly, by calling the Palazzo, or by visiting OpenTable online.

Seating
Seating at LAVO is generously spaced and no table is considered undesirable. Chairs and tables are generally two to three inches lower than a regular chair, as the atmosphere is supposed to be conducive to more relaxed dining. Chairs are generous at about 17 to 18 inches wide. Tables, meanwhile, are approximately 36 inches square, but can fold out for additional room. Seating options are varied, as you can sit in an armless upholstered chair, lounge on a banquet or sofa, or sit in a curvilinear booth.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere at Lavo is one of exotic fun. As the evening progresses, the room gets darker so that the candles in circular bronze holders can provide more and more of the light in the room. Like the light, music adds further to the atmosphere. Lavo is so diverse thanks to spaces like the main dining room, the lounge, the terrace and the nightclub; you can have a different experience in each area, so you might want to try all! Although you are technically not in a bathhouse, the theme definitely feels like one. By the way, Assistant General Manager Eli Micaiah has his finger on the pulse of each aspect of Lavo and succeeds in making the experience an extraordinary one. Our server, Kyle, was excellent. He catered to our every need and was always available without being intrusive.

Restrooms
The restrooms at LAVO are in the restaurant and on the same level as the dining room. Note that they have attendants, so be sure to have your tips ready.

The dress code is fashionable.

Parking
Gratis valet parking is available at the Palazzo, as is gratis self parking. Or you can simply take a cab and not worry about parking.

Awards
Although we have not seen any awards for LAVO, Executive Chef Ludo Lefebvre has certainly made a name for himself. He was named one of the World’s 50 Greatest Chefs by Relais & Chateaux and has been nominated by the James Beard Foundation for its Rising Star Chef Award. He also has the unique distinction of having been the only chef in Los Angles to receive the Mobil Travel Guide Five Star Award at two different restaurants, L’Orangerie from 1997 until 1999 and Bastide in 2006.

*Please note that the restaurants featured at TravelsinTaste.com may have changed their personnel, menu, pricing, decor, hours of operation, etc., since our last visit. The competitive and creative nature of the fine dining scene virtually assures that changes will occur on a frequent basis in order to make diners happier, meals more pleasurable and visits more frequent. Given their frequent fluctuations, most restaurants welcome inquiries about their current hours, menu and more.
