For centuries, it’s been said that oysters, clams and mussels have aphrodisiac powers. In Ancient Greece, for instance, Aphrodite was said to have sprung from the foamy sea out of an oyster shell. In 18th century Italy, meanwhile, Casanova, the world’s most famous womanizer, reputedly ate more than 50 raw oysters a day to boost his libido. Even today, modern Valentine’s Day menus are brimming with the sea’s sexiest treats. In honor of these special mollusks, Executive Chef/Proprietor Shaun Hergatt will be treating TravelsinTaste members to an exotic five-course (and five-wine!) dinner in the dining room of one of New York’s most beautiful restaurants: Michelin starred SHO Shaun Hergatt.

About the Menu - Chef Hergatt’s menu includes such delectable items as Fisher Island oysters, long known for their sweet meat, which will be served with their excellent brine content and seasoned with Junsai, a Japanese delicacy that’s known for its medicinal qualities; Bouchot mussels, which are renowned for their taste and will therefore be served with pomme puree and sensual saffron-espelette crème (rumor has it that Cleopatra used to bath in saffron to arouse her senses). Also on the menu is seared diver scallop with braised oxtail and a syrah reduction. And that’s just the beginning! For dessert, you’ll end your evening with Coconut Pearls served with hibiscus chips and passion fruit sorbet.
