BAR MASA AT A GLANCE
This is a brief summary: Read the complete profile for details on the space, chef and menu, as well as insider tips designed to maximize your comfort. To continue, use the purple menu bar above.
Overview
- The restaurant was opened by Chef Masa Takayama in 2004 and is located next door to Masa considered one of the most expensive restaurants in the world. Bar Masa, a less expensive and more accessible restaurant containing much of the same food found at Masa.
- The restaurant's focal point is its bar, which is a bubinga wood plank. Bubinga is a tropical wood found in Africa-the genus of which is known for its luxury timber-that's used in instruments because of its rich sound. It's known as African rosewood (though it's not part of the rosewood family) and is generally uniform in tone.
- When TravelsinTaste.com visited Bar Masa, the more casual offshoot of Masa-one of Manhattan's two most expensive restaurants-we were told we could not take pictures. If they change their policy on pictures, we'll certainly be back to provide a more complete profile. In the mean time below are some details.
