Long known as a celebrity hangout, Spago has been the scene for many a Hollywood function. Elton John held his Oscar party here in 1998, for example-they closed off the street for the stars’ arrivals that night-and Dreamworks celebrated its best picture win for American Beauty here in 2000. Many Hollywood celebrities and entertainment industry titans, including Sydney Poitier and Michael Eisner, have even been spotted here celebrating birthdays or just enjoying a delightful meal. Formerly the Bistro Garden, Nancy Regan's favorite restaurant, Spago Beverly Hills replaced the original Spago, which was located on Sunset Boulevard, when it closed in 2001. Upon moving into the space, Puck kept the Bistro Garden's romantic garden area and even improved it by incorporating several regal olive trees, some of which are more than 100 years old.
