The traditional Brazilian Steakhouse, complete with gauchos and churrascaria-style cooking, has made its way north to Las Olas Boulevard in southern Florida from southern Brazil's Uberlandia, where Bruno Silva founded his successful restaurant, Chima. Chima provides a fun alternative to the traditional steakhouse, as neatly dressed gauchos -- as Brazilian cowboys are called -- continually grace your table with a myriad of meats, including beef, chicken, pork and seafood cooked in the Brazilian barbeque style. The name "Chima" was inspired by the drink chimarrao, a type of tea that's known for its medicinal properties, including the ability to aid digestion, fight free radicals, enhance immunity and improve metabolism. Not only does this tea have medicinal potential, though; it also has culture cache, as it has long been used in South Brazil as a gesture of hospitality. It's generally enjoyed in groups; the host makes the chimarrao and passes it around with a communal cuia (cup), thereby fostering friendship and sociable conversation. It's the word's healing and hospitable connotations that ultimately persuaded Silva to choose it as his restaurant's name. And Chima is, indeed, the perfect name, as this restaurant makes you feel truly taken care of with every course.
