Imagine sitting at the shore, dining on a variety of culinary delights, all the while taking in the tranquil view of the bright blue ocean stretching out beyond a span of inviting white sand. You don't have to imagine it, all you have to do to be pampered to your heart's content (or maybe you wallet's content) is get a table at the DiLido Beach Club at the luxurious Ritz Carlton, South Beach. There's no other restaurant in South Beach where can have such a complete, unobstructed view of the beach while you eat. Dining at the DiLido offers a wonderful occasion for people watching - both within the restaurant and out on the beach - and Sunday cocktail hours are the prime time for celebrity sightings.
The name of the DiLido restaurant pays homage to the original DiLido Hotel, whose sign still adorns the current hotel due to its landmark status. That's why, if you are looking for the Ritz Carlton from Collins avenue, you will also find a sign for the DiLido Hotel there as well. In style and atmosphere, the Ritz Carlton, South Beach is reminiscent of a luxury liner. You can see those luxury liner touches in the overall shape of the hotel as well as details like the exterior curves, the balconies, the design of the pool deck, and the ubiquitous shade of nautical blue. The smooth elegance of the Ritz Carlton, South Beach owes some of its luxury liner feel to the rare unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean that you can even enjoy from the infinity pool. Another indulgent rarity at the hotel is the service of the world's only known tanning butler - we'll say more about him below. If you're looking for the infinity pool, it's nicely situated between the two Ritz Carlton restaurants, right outside the Americana restaurant and right above the DiLido Beach Club.
The original DiLido hotel was designed by Morris Lapidus in the Art Moderne/Miami Modern ("MiMo") style he pioneered and which is now part of the quintessential Miami look. The hotel underwent a major, $200 million renovation and reopened in December 2003 with much of the original style of the hotel preserved.
