If you're in Santa Monica and want to support local businesses and enjoy local food, but have a taste for food with an international French flair, then Melisse is the place for you. Chef Josiah Citrin, a Santa Monica local, and his wife and partner, Diane Citrin, created this Mobile 4-star rated restaurant in the heart of Santa Monica in 1999. The restaurant is named after the French word melisse, which means "lemon balm." The melisse herb is a delicate, lemon-scented member of the mint family that is indigenous to the Mediterranean. Chef Citrin, who is well known for his love of seasonal ingredients, his frequent trips to the local farmers' market and his support of local farmers, believes that the name melisse speaks to the influence of natural ingredients and flavors in his cuisine. Chef Citrin's classical French technique, coupled with his masterful use of the ingredients he finds at the farmers market, ensure a uniquely delightful dining experience. But, if you can't spend the time to savor Melisse's tasting menu, not to worry, Chef Citrin and the Melisse staff have a catering business designed to bring the Melisse experience to your next private party!
