Gian Magnone

GianCarlo Magnone

GianCarlo Magnone grew up in Orange County, California where he began his career in the hospitality industry approximately 15 years ago. Having begun his career working in fine dining restaurants and four star hotels, Gian, as he is more commonly known, gained a majority of his experience early on. Magnone held a number of front of the house positions such as a table host, bus boy and food server. He even spent a small amount of time in the back of the house working as a dishwasher, food line preparer, and cook. Although each position taught him something new, Magnone always knew that he wanted to pursue his passion: bartending.

His dreams came to fruition nine years ago when he accepted a bartending position at the famous five-star restaurant, The Chart House. Magnone was trained by, as he calls them, “old school bartenders” who taught him the importance of fundamental service standards and mixology. Magnone attributes his success today to these habits he developed early on.

After bartending for some time in Orange County, Magnone relocated to San Diego to study at the NewSchool of Architecture & Design. During his collegiate tenure, he juggled schoolwork and bartending. He commonly acted as a guest bartender in clubs throughout Los Angeles and San Diego. It wasn’t until he opened the Ivy, a boutique hotel in downtown San Diego, that he found his first real home as a bartender, working in the exclusive Envy Nightclub.
