Comfort Zone
First, it is relatively easy to make a reservation at the Blue Door; either call the restaurant directly or make a reservation online with Opentable. Reservations are strongly recommended for dinner.

    Seating
Tables are approximately 29 square inches and are therefore small for groups larger than two. They're still comfortable, however-unless you are seated at a round table. The round tables are so small that three people who want to eat a generous amount of food will need to get rid of the bread if they intend to keep a bottle of water on their table along with their entrees and side dishes. If you don't eat much, then the round tables will have plenty of room for you. The seats are comfortable and are approximately 17 inches in diameter at their largest. The space between tables is also large.

Atmosphere
In terms of atmosphere, music does play, but is completely unobtrusive. At night, table candles exclusively light half of the outdoor terrace; thus, while the ambience is romantic, reading the menu is difficult. Order early or bring a small flashlight, as it is also difficult to see the food-which tends to be covered in dark sauces-completely.

Restrooms
The restroom is a hike from the terrace, about a third of the way down the cavernous hallway of the hotel. Note that between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., both the ladiesroom and mensroom are graced with attendants, so be prepared to tip them. The restroom is near the bar, which is outside of the restaurant and down the hall.

Dress Code
Most diners, if not all, adhere to the dress code, which is business casual. You'll feel most comfortable if you join the crowd.

Parking
There is valet parking at the hotel, but be wary, as the driveway is very small; approximately three cars can fit at one time, so you may need to wait awhile in order to get your car back from the valet. Plan accordingly. Taxis are available, but because the Delano is located on the heart of Collins Avenue it is also a short walk to many of the main hotels in South Beach.

Awards
The Blue Door is the recipient of several awards, including Esquire's "Best New Restaurant in America for 1998" and Gourmet Magazine's "Best Restaurant in Miami" in its "America's Best Restaurants 2000" list.

*Please note that the restaurants featured at TravelsinTaste.com may have changed their personnel, menu, pricing, decor, hours of operation, etc., since our last visit. The competitive and creative nature of the fine dining scene virtually assures that changes will occur on a frequent basis in order to make diners happier, meals more pleasurable and visits more frequent. Given their frequent fluctuations, most restaurants welcome inquiries about their current hours, menu and more.
