Comfort Zone
Aquavit is a Scandinavian fine-dining restaurant. Though the waterfall is gone in the new location, the style of the food remains. If you'd like to learn a little more about the restaurant before making a reservation, please read on.

    Reservations
Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling the restaurant directly, or through opentable.com by clicking on the make a reservation link above.

Seating
Seating throughout the restaurant is comfortable; though if you would like a more intimate feeling reserve one of the five booths on the side of the dining room. Regular table options include the freestanding tables in the dining room and semi-private dining in the very back of the restaurant. Tables are closer together than some other fine dining establishments, but its not bothersome. Chairs in the main dining area are wide and comfortable. In the back area and at the chef's table, the chairs have higher backs.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere in the dining room is quite serene, and the large skylight is truly reminiscent of the Scandinavian Arctic sun - Land of the midnight sun. The cafe is a bit more casual both in atmosphere and required attire.

Restrooms
Restrooms are to the front of the restaurant, on the same level as the restaurant, just before the bar, off to the side, and completely unnoticeable. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible.

Dress Code
A jacket is suggested for men in the main dining area. The cafe is a little more casual.

Parking
Aquavit is easily accessible by taxi, subway or car. If you are driving, there are parking garages on 54th, 55th and 56th street. However, keep in mind that these garages are not associated with the restaurant and they charge the regular going rate. Parking on the street in midtown is extremely limited.

Awards
The following is a listing of the awards won by Aquavit and Marcus Samuelsson: James Beard Award, Best Chef in New York City - Marcus Samuelsson, 2003; James Bear Award - Rising Star Chef of the Year - Marcus Samuelsson 1999; Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA), 2001, 2002, 2003; Gourmet Magazine - Best Restaurants 2000 and 2001; Nation's Restaurant News - Fine Dining Hall of Fame, 2000; Restaurants and Institutions - Ivy Award, 2001; The Culinary Institute of America - Great Chef of America - Marcus Samuelsson, 1998; Restaurant Hospitality Magazine - Rising Star - Marcus Samuelsson - 1997; Wine Spectator - Award of Excellence, 1998, 2002, and 2003.

*Please note that the restaurants featured at TravelsinTaste.com may have changed their personnel, menu, pricing, decor, hours of operation, etc., since our last visit. The competitive and creative nature of the fine dining scene virtually assures that changes will occur on a frequent basis in order to make diners happier, meals more pleasurable and visits more frequent. Given their frequent fluctuations, most restaurants welcome inquiries about their current hours, menu and more.
