No matter what you want to see or do, chances are you can see it and do it in New York. Shopping? Check. Museums? Check. Sightseeing? Check. They say the city never sleeps - and it really doesn't - so there's plenty of time for visitors to take advantage of all it has to offer. The perfect place to start is Central Park, which includes 843 acres of grass, trees and trails. Best visited only during daylight, the park is home to a free open-air theater, a zoo, 21 playgrounds, two skating rinks and a public swimming pool, not to mention 58 miles of pedestrian paths. If it's walking you're after, though, consider stretching your legs instead on Fifth Avenue, one of the world's premier shopping streets, or on the southern tip of Manhattan in the Financial District, home to the New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street.
Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without the standard city sights. The Statue of Liberty is a classic, as are the Empire State Building (350 Fifth Ave.) and Rockefeller Center, which is home to the "Top of the Rock" observation deck. All three offer spectacular, can't-miss views of the New York City skyline. If you're afraid of heights, though, don't fret. There is plenty to see in Manhattan at the street level, too, including shopping and tours at Rockefeller Center, not to mention dozens of the world's best museums, including the Guggenheim Museum (1071 5th Ave.), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1000 5th Ave.) and the Museum of Modern Art (11 W. 53rd St.). For culture-craving travelers, it doesn't get much better than New York.
