Casual Luxury at the Beach

Americana at the Ritz Carlton, the Commingling of Elegant Cuisine with Spectacular Views

You'll find the Americana restaurant inside the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach at the corner of Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue. Originally named the Dilido Hotel, this signature South Beach landmark was the third hotel designed by the legendary Morris Lapidus. Lapidus called his style "neoplasticist," and while the name didn't catch on, his devotion to a "too much is not enough" philosophy of architecture has become synonymous with South Beach glitz and glamour. The first hotel Lapidus designed in Florida was the Fontainebleau (1954). This one-of-a-kind hotel was designed to make visitors feel like they were in a Hollywood film – and so it was right at home in films such as Goldfinger and the Jerry Lewis comedy The Bell Boy. More recently, the renovated Fontainebleau, has been featured in Bravo's Top Chef Miami. In between creating the Fontainebleau and the nearby Americana, Lapidus built Eden Roc - a favorite hotel of Hollywood stars of the 50s and 60s. Outside of Florida, one of Lapidus' most ambitious hotels was the Americana Hotel in New York - now the Sheraton New York Hotel. The 49-story Americana Hotel was the largest hotel he ever designed, and the Americana restaurant inside the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach is named so in honor of Lapidus' bold New York creation.
